1. Babies Can Recognize Their Mother’s Voice As Soon As They Are Born
Usually, it takes a while for a baby’s hearing ability to become
fully developed because when they are born; their middle ear is filled
with some fluid which hinders their hearing ability. But this does not
deter a new born from recognizing and responding to the sound
of its
mother’s voice.
2. Babies Don’t Cry
Okay, we know you are already thinking “What do you mean babies don’t cry?”
Well, babies do cry but they never shed tears. A Baby’s tear duct
cannot produce enough teardrops. In the first three months of a baby’s
life, the teardrops it produces is only sufficient to protect and
lubricate the eyes so they can only yell so much but cannot actually
shed tears.
3. Babies Have 270 Bones
If you sat through your biology lessons in high school, you would of
course know that the human has 206 bones. But not babies! Babies have
270 bones which reduce to 206 as it grows, due to fusion of its skull
and spine.
4. Babies Breathe Faster Than Adults
While an adult takes between 12 and 20 breaths per minute, a baby takes in about 2-4 times more breath per minute.
5. Nearly 33% of New Babies are Born With Birthmarks
It has been discovered that for every 3 babies born, it is almost
certain that 1 would be born with a birthmark. It has also been
established that female babies have birthmarks twice more than their
male counterparts.
6. Newly Born Babies Can Crawl
The general belief is that babies are not strong enough to start
crawling until a few months after they are born but a research by the
Karolinska Institute, Sweden in 1987 was able to prove this wrong.
7. Babies Can Double Their Birth weight in Few Months
According to Mayo Clinic, babies can double their birth weight only five months after it is born. Is that not incredible?
8. Babies See Objects Clearly When It’s Far Away
Most new born babies are born nearsighted and can only catch a good
view of objects when it’s about 8 to 12 inches away from them although
this soon regulates itself as the baby grows older.
9. New Babies Cannot Taste Salt
Newly Born babies cannot taste salt until they are about sixteen
weeks old because their kidneys are not yet developed enough to process
sodium until they are that old.
10. Babies are Born With About 10,000 Taste Buds
Babies have more taste buds than adults and babies have around 10,000
taste buds on the tongue as well as at the roof of their mouths and the
back and sides of the mouth. Only that these extra taste buds disappear
as they grow older.
